Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does CouplerTec void new car warranties.
A. No – Capacitive Coupling Technology can not harm or interfere with anything. There are no reasons why it should or could void new car warranties.

Q. What is the difference between CouplerTec and the conventional rustproofing methods.
A. Sprays and coatings are only as good as where they can reach. Unless your vehicle is totally stripped internally, there is absolutely no way you could protect any more than 60% of the vehicles surface. CouplerTec reaches 100% of the surface, helps prevent stone chips from rust growth and the system can be taken to your next vehicle.

Q. Is CouplerTec the more expensive option, over other rustproofing methods
A. No - Unlike conventional sprays and coatings that need to be topped up or reapplied on an annual basis, CouplerTec is a once only cost and can even be transferred to your next vehicle.

Q. Are all Electronic Rustproofing Systems the same?
No –CouplerTec employs a process known as Capacitive Coupling. This Technology has had a proven record of performance in the USA since 1986. Here in Australia there are a number of different types of so called Electronic Rustproofing devices. The majority of these things do nothing other than turn on a light. Some are cathodic or impressed current and should not even be on a car. CouplerTec has the technology, the other’s don’t. CouplerTec released the latest advancement in capacitive coupling technology in February 2005. This upgraded computerised technology has separated CouplerTec’s systems from the rest.

Q. Does one size fit all?
A. No - CouplerTec uses a range of systems to suit all applications, e.g.: the average family sedan would need a 1 coupler system, a 4WD vehicle would need the stronger 2 coupler system and a Heavy Duty 4 coupler 4WD system would suit vehicles that are exposed to servere conditions on a regular basic such as life guard and mining vehicles.

It is not just one size system with extra couplers added on in series. With CouplerTec technology it is impossible to run couplers in series as some other products do.

Q. Is cheaper better?
A. No – Unfortunately the Electronic Rustproofing market is rife with cheap and nasty products that do absolutely nothing as far as controlling corrosion. These devices can range from as little as $14.95 for a DIY Kit up to $1700 fitted at some New Car Dealerships. Most of these devices are untested and unproven so buyer beware, CouplerTec Capacitive Coupling is tested, proven and good value for money.

Q. Does the Unit interfere with on board computers, and radios, etc or personal health?
A. No – CouplerTec complies with Australian Standards for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC AS/NZS 4251.1) which means it will not interfere or hurt anything.

Q. Will it flatten my battery?
A. No – CouplerTec systems draw less power from the battery than a dashboard clock, approx. 20 – 40 mA.

Q. My car already has some rust - will CouplerTec help?
A. Yes – In all but very severe cases CouplerTec systems will slow the corrosion rate noticeable. It is recommended that CouplerTec be installed prior to having your vehicles rust repaired, this will allow time for the CouplerTec Technology to stabilise any existing corrosion.

Q. If I trade or sell this car can I take the unit off?
A. Yes – The CouplerTec system is easily transferred from one vehicle to the next. You will need to replace only the coupler at around $15.00. Contact your local distributor for re-installation instructions.

Q. How long will it last?
A. The systems life is indefinite, the electronics are solid state (no moving parts) and the electronic board is totally encapsulated in an epoxy resin that makes it completely sealed.

Q. How many anodes does CouplerTec have?
A. None - CouplerTec employs technology known as Capacitive Coupling, the couplers are fixed to the vehicles painted surface and are not sacrificial, like anodes are. Any product that uses anodes or runs a wire straight to a screw or bare metal is using Cathodic/Impressed current technology that was designed for boats or underground pipes etc - NOT motor vehicles
